Even though the probability of your phone getting reset or a random bug deleting all of your data is very low, it is still not zero and hence, it is always recommended to have a timely backup of your data.

Backup are useful in many situations. Sometimes you might need to do a complete reset of your smartphone, or maybe your device lost all of your data while performing an update then having your data backed up can be a lifesaver. A backup is useful if you are switching to a new phone, or you lost your phone. Numerous ways are there using which you can take backup of your Motorola device, including both with PC and without PC.

How to Take a Backup of Motorola Phone without PC

For those who don’t have access to PC at the moment can follow these backup methods. There are plenty of ways using which you can back up your data without having a PC. Let’s look at all the possible methods one by one:

Note: Files other than photos and videos will not be included in the backup unless you upload them manually. It’s important to copy these files to another device, so that you can recover them later. If your cloud storage have less space, copy photos and videos as well.

Backup Data Using Google Account

Google’s native built-in backup solution for Android can be very useful in some circumstances. It allows the user to have a backup of all important data including call history, device settings, apps, and SMS to Google Cloud. The user can then simply sign into the other device with the same account and all the data will be restored automatically without any hassle.

  1. To do a backup using your Google Account, go to the Settings app of your phone.
  2. Now go to the “Google” section.
  3. Click on All Services followed by Backup.
  4. Now enable the toggle next to “Backup by Google One.”
  5. Click on the “Back up now” button for immediate backup. You can further scroll down and choose what backup you need and what not.

Note: For this backup, your Google account must have enough space in Drive. If not, copy large files including Photos and Videos manually.

This process will backup Contacts, Call history, Device settings, Apps and app data, SMS and MMS messages. Follow the next method to allow backing up Photos and Videos. Also copy documents, and other files manually as these will not be included in the cloud backup.

Backing Up Photos and Videos Using Google Photos

The aforementioned method is very useful but one shortcoming of it is that it doesn’t support the backup of photos and videos. Well, Google Photos is there to serve the purpose. Here’s how you can backup and sync your photos and videos using it:

  1. Open the pre-installed Google Photos app.
  2. Tap on the Profile Icon on the top-right corner of your screen.
  3. Now click on “Photos Settings.”
  4. Go to “Backup” and toggle it on.
  5. You can also choose the quality of your backup and whether you want to automatically backup your images and videos or not on the same page.

Backup Motorola phone Using Third Party Software

While Google’s method of backing up the data gets the job done, it’s always better not to take any risk with the data and hence here’s another method to backup the data of your Motorola device using third-party software. Further, you can use any app of your choice, but we are using “Super Backup & Restore” for reference.

  1. Open PlayStore and search “Super Backup & Restore.” You can try other apps as well.
  2. Install the app and open it once done.
  3. As soon as you open the app, it will ask for the path whether you want to backup the data. You can store the backup in an SD Card, or your internal storage and can use the cloud backup option as well.
  4. After allowing the access to path, you can now backup your apps, SMS, contacts, call logs etc from the app.

  6. You can later restore the backup using the same app.

How to Backup Motorola Devices With PC

You can also back up your Motorola device with a PC. While this method isn’t as easy as mobile ones, but this is always a more secure approach toward storing your backup and data. There are two methods using which you can take a backup of your Motorola device using a PC.

Manually Backing Up the Data to the PC

You can use this method to manually transfer the important files, folders and images to the PC. You can then transfer back those files to your Motorola device whenever you need it. Doing this is fairly easy, let’s see how:

  1. Before anything, connect your PC and Motorola device using the same cable.
  2. On the device, a pop-up menu will appear or else swipe down the notification panel to see a prompt saying “Charging this device via USB.”
  3. Click on the prompt and now select “File Transfer.” If the pop-up disappears, you can open USB preferences from Notifications.

  4. Now open the files of your PC and go to the “This PC” section to see whether your Motorola device is now connected or not.
  5. You can now simply double-click on the icon of your device on your PC and then either copy-paste or drag and drop the important files and images to the storage of your PC. That’s it.

This will not backup apps data, call history, sms, settings, and some other data. You can copy contacts vcf file if you have exported it from Contacts settings. For such on device data, you can follow the next method or backup them to google drive which shouldn’t take much space.

Backing Up Using Motorola’s Official Software

Motorola has its official tool called Software Fix formerly known as Rescue and Smart Assistant. You can use the following app the take a backup of your Motorola device locally. But before moving to the steps, you will need to allow USB debugging on your phone. To do so, go to Settings >> About Phone >> Tap on Build Number 7 times. This will enable the developer option. Now go to the Developer Options menu and scroll down to find USB Debugging and enable it.

  1. First of all, download the Software Fix Tool from the following link and install it on your PC.
  2. Now connect your phone to the PC using a USB cable.
  3. Once you connect the cable, a pop-up will appear on your phone asking for USB debugging permissions. Grant it by tapping on “Allow”.

  4. Open Device help app on your phone. It may ask for a code for verification purposes. The code will appear on the software, enter the same code on the mobile.
  5. Once your device is detected, click on “Backup and Restore” option on Software fix tool.
  6. Select the data you want to back up and hit the “Backup” button.

  7. A pop-up will again appear on your device asking for permission. Tap on “Yes.”
  8. The application will now ask you to create a password using which you can access the backup file later. Enter the password of your choice and proceed.
  9. That’s it. The tool will now start backing up your data on the PC.

You can restore the backup from the Software. For this click on Restore option next to backup in Backup & Software section. There you will be able to restore your backup.

Backing Up Motorola Device Using Different Tools

There are a lot of tools using which one you take backup and restore the data of your Motorola device. There’s an app called Motorola Phone Tools, using which you can take a backup of all of your data on a PC. Some other third-party apps such as Dr.Phone can also be used. However, do note that the ways to use these apps are different. And hence, we cannot pick or give any universal method. Doing so is fairly easy, you just need to connect your phone via cable, select “Files Transfer” in your Motorola device and then simply use the application of your choice to take the backup or restore.
