Which generation of the Apple TV do you have?
If you have the 4th and the 5th generation of Apple TV we have good news for you. You can add apps to Apple TV easily.
How to Install Apps on Apple TV
In addition to default apps that are installed on your Apple TV, you can go to the app store and install new apps. The process of installing apps on Apple TV is pretty straightforward, but a bit different from installing apps on mobile phones. Depending on the apps you have installed on your iPhone, you can also install them on your Apple TV. Simply go to the Purchased menu option on the App Store, and tap on Not on This Apple TV and check the list of apps you can download.
Another way is to simply browse the app store for Apple TV and download new applications. If the app is free there will be a Get button against the respective app, and if the app is paid, you will see the option to buy.
But what if you have already purchased an app on your iPhone and you want it on the Apple TV? Well, you can simply download the app without paying for it again.
Unfortunately, the older generations of the Apple TV (1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen) do not have an App Store.
If you have an older generation of Apple TV, you may not see an App Store on it. But there are workarounds for that as well.
- Use AirPlay to stream the apps you have on your iPhone or iPad
- Jailbreak your Apple TV (warning: jailbreaking can turn really dirty if you are not skilled enough to do it and your device may become unusable)
How to Update Apps on Apple TV
Apart from adding new applications to Apple TV, you can also update the old ones. Usually, the default settings on your Apple TV updates the Apps automatically, but if you for whatever reason had turned off that option, you can always update apps manually.
As with other Apple devices, you just need to find the app you want to update in the app store and see if there’s an update available for it. If yes, you can simply tap on the Update button to update the app.
How to Delete Apps on Apple TV
If for some reason, you want to remove an app from your Apple TV, select the app and hover on it until an option menu appears on the screen.
Then, simple click on the Delete button to remove the app. Have in mind that all information related to that particular app will also be deleted alongside the app.
