Itโ€™s been four months since iOS 18 was released to the public. Many iPhone models, including the iPhone Xr and newer ones, are eligible for the latest iOS version. Apple has finally shared the adoption rate for the first time since the release of the latest iOS version.

According to the official report, 76% of iPhones introduced in the last four years are running iOS 18, while 19% of them still on iOS 17, and 5% of them on older versions.

Among the iPhones still in use, 68% of them are running iOS 18, followed by 19% running iOS 17, and the remaining 13% running older versions of iOS.

Along with iOS, Apple has also shared the adoption rates for iPadOS. 63% of iPads introduced in the last four years are running iPadOS 18, 27% of them are running iPadOS 17, and 10% are on earlier versions.

53% of all the iPads still in use are running iPadOS 18, while 28% of them are running iPadOS 17. The remaining 19% are running earlier versions.

These numbers are quite similar to the data released last year for the iOS 17. There is a slight increase in adoption rate of about 1 or 2 percent. The numbers will further increase in coming months until the iOS 19 release, just like last year.

Apple measures the data based on the devices that transacted on the App Store as of January 21, 2025.

Apple manages to maintain a steady adoption rate, thanks to its consistent update schedule, unlike Android devices. Apple releases updates for everyone simultaneously, while Android devices often have different update routines depending on various factors like brand and region. This is one of the primary reasons users update their Apple devices quickly.
