Google rolls out May 2024 Update for Pixel Phones

After quietly launching the Pixel 8a earlier today, Google has now pushed the May 2024 update for Pixel Phones as part of its monthly update series. The new Pixel update is available for Pixel 5a 5G and newer Pixel phones. As you would expect from the monthly update, the update focuses on bug fixes and improvements.

Unlike the Pixel Feature Drop updates that come every three months, the monthly update is a small update with a few minor changes. The next Feature Drop Update with multiple new features and changes will be available in early June, at least as per the historical data. Although the monthly update is a small update, it is an important update because of the updated security patch level.

The May 2024 update for Pixel 5a 5G, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, and Pixel Tablet come with build number AP1A.240505.004, whereas Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Fold are getting the update with build number AP1A.240505.005. Build numbers also vary by carrier.

The update brings camera improvements for video recording under certain conditions for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Another improvement is related to Bluetooth for all eligible Pixel phones. You can check the changelog below.

  • General improvements in stability or performance for Bluetooth LE audio

  • Fix for camera performance under certain conditions when recording video

If you have an eligible Pixel phone, you will get the update through OTA soon if you haven’t received it already. As no update are to be trusted these days, make sure to check on some reviews before installing the update.
