Google rolls out May 2022 update to Pixel Phones with bug fixes

It is the first week of May and Google is rolling out a new May 2022 update for Pixel phones. The update has gone live for the Pixel 3a and the latest Pixel phones. This is a minor Pixel update that fixes some known bugs. Read on to know more about the May 2022 Google Pixel update.

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users had problems with haptic feedback since the last update. The vibration was weak on receiving the notification and due to this many users were missing the notification on time. If you are one of the users facing this issue now you can update to the latest version to fix it.

Apart from the haptic feedback fix, Google has also fixed bugs related to the display and launcher. The haptic feedback issue was present in the Pixel 6 series while the other two issues were part of the Google Pixel 3a and newer Pixel phones.

The May 2022 Pixel Update is available for these devices.

  • Pixel 3a (XL)
  • Pixel 4 (XL)
  • Pixel 4a
  • Pixel 4a (5G)
  • Pixel 5
  • Pixel 5a (5G)
  • Pixel 6
  • Pixel 6 Pro

All the mentioned Pixel phones get the update with build number SP2A.220505.002.

May 2022 Pixel Update – What’s New

  • Display / Graphics
    • Fix for issue occasionally causing display to wake without user interaction.
  • Sensors
    • Improvements for haptic feedback under certain conditions and use cases (Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro).
  • User Interface
    • Fix for issue causing launcher crash after restarting device in certain conditions.

If you are a Pixel 3a or newer Pixel phone user you should receive the update soon. The update rollout is already live starting Monday. But as this is a staged rollout it can take about a week or more to reach all the eligible phones. If you don’t receive update notifications you can manually check for the OTA update under Settings. Since it is an update from Google you don’t have to wait much.
