Google rolls out first update for Pixel 6 and 6 Pro with new features

Last week, Google unveiled its next generation of Pixel phones, in the form of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. At the moment, both phones are up for Pre-order and will start shipping tomorrow. A day before availability of new phones, Google kicked off a new software upgrade for its Pixel 6 series phones. The latest update is seeding with a bunch of new features and enhancements. Hereโ€™s everything you need to know about the now build.

Google starts rolling out the new update with SD1A.210817.036 version number. If youโ€™ve a Verizon variant then, the update carries SD1A.210817.036.A8 firmware version. However, the update is in deployment timelines and rolling out in a staged manner. And may not be available to everyone until October 28. According to the Google, the update will take about 25-50 minutes for downloading, which simply means that this is a big update for the Pixel phones.

The newest update bags all the features flaunted at the Pixel fall event aka Pixel 6 launch event. It also includes the anticipated Magic Eraser feature. Google says, โ€œmany of the key apps have new features and improvements for Pixel 6โ€. We can also expect improved system stability and enhancements. Now letโ€™s see how to get the update.

If youโ€™ve already received and setup your Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, the update will be downloaded automatically in the background. In case, the OTA is not available to you then you can try checking it manually by heading over to the Settings > System > System update > Check for update. Then, you can hit the download and install button to update your phone to the newer software version.

You can check the software version by moving to the Settings > About phone > Build number. Before upgrading, make sure to charge your smartphone to at least 50%.
