Google releases Wear OS 5 update for Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2

Google has started rolling out the Wear OS 5 update to the first-gen Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2. The software upgrade was first teased in May during the Google I/O summit, later, it will be released with the Pixel Watch 3, announced last month.

Speaking of the other Android smartwatches, Samsung has also been testing the new software upgrade on Galaxy Watches. It is expected to be released in the coming months.

Today, Google announced that the Wear OS 5.0 update will begin rolling out to Pixel Watches running Wear OS 3.5 and Wear OS 4.0. The rollout will occur in different phases over the coming weeks, depending on the carrier and device. The update will bump up the monthly security patch to September 2024 and also bring new features, fixes, performance updates, and enhancements.

Google is pushing the new software upgrade to the original Pixel Watch with AW2A.240903.005.A2 build number, whereas, the Pixel Watch 2 receives the new software upgrade with AW2A.240903.005.A1 version number.

As it is a Wear OS update, it will also update a huge number of system apps on the watch. After updating your watch to Wear OS, you can visit the Play Store to install the new app updates.

Talking about the other features, then Wear OS 5.0 features a new grid-view app launcher, improved camera controls, the new Pixel Recorder, Health and Fitness enhancements, and Enablement Global roaming for Canada and Mexico. Here’s the complete changelog shared by Verizon.

If you own a Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch 2, you can navigate to Settings > System > System updates and look for the new software upgrade, if it’s available on your watch you can download and install it. If it’s not available yet, you can wait for a few days. You can speed up the process by turning off the Bluetooth to force WiFi feature in connectivity preferences.
