Google is now rolling out a new update to the Pixel Camera, bringing its version to 9.8. This update is part of the March 2025 Pixel drop, which is already being rolled out to Pixel users. If you haven’t received the update yet, the new version of the Pixel Camera will be available on your device soon.
The Google Pixel Camera is a powerful camera known for its exceptional optimization and remarkable color accuracy. It is popular enough that there are mods of the app for various Android phones. Pixel Camera 9.8 brings some new features including animation for Astrophotography, Palm timer gesture description, and more.

Animation for Astrophotography is available in the Settings > Advanced and is enabled by default. When it’s enabled, there will be an animation during capture. Additionally, the Palm timer option is available in the Camera settings. The description explains how it works “start a photo timer by showing your palm to the front or rear cameras.”

Apart from these, Pixel Camera 9.8 introduces some device-specific features. The Dual Screen Preview feature is now available during video recording on Pixel Fold. Additionally, Pixel 9 Pro Fold users can now use the Add Me feature with the Dual Screen preview.
Connected Cameras now lets Pixel users connect their devices to another camera or another Pixel phone. This feature allows users to record from different angles. Currently, this feature is available only for the Pixel 9 series. However, users can connect Pixel 6 or newer devices, as well as GoPro 10 or newer devices.
