Google Camera 8.6 brings Material You to modes, Speech enhancement, and more

Google’s work on making the GCam better continues with the release of Google Camera 8.6. The latest update to the GCam app comes one month after the Google Camera 8.5. The newest version of Google Camera brings some UI changes to the app, speech enhancement, and more. The app code hints at the support for Pixel foldable and Hotspot selfie tips. Read along to know more about the Google Camera 8.6.

With Google Camera 8.6 update, Google extends the support of Material You dynamic colors to different buttons (Panorama, Photo Sphere, and Lens) available in the modes section in the app. Besides the Material You support, there’s a dock in the background for better visibility and the placement of buttons has also changed and looks more settled now.

The next feature available in the new version of GCam is Speech enhancement. It’s not a new feature, it was available since launch but work only with the front camera video recording. Now you can use the Speech enhancement feature with the rear camera as well to reduce unwanted noises like “wind, traffic, and crowds”. You can record videos in FHD resolution (1080p) at 30fps with speech enhancement turned on. Apart from these features, you can expect overall enhancements to the app.

According to 9to5Google, Google is working on a new Pixel foldable mode, Hotspot selfie tips, two new modes (Amber and Amethyst), and Pixel 7-centric features. 9to5Google says “we have our best evidence of Googleโ€™s continued foldable Pixel efforts to date, thanks to the inclusion of a new mode with the codename “Jupiter.” The mode will allow users to switch the camera between the inner display and the outer display, here’s the icon of the upcoming GCam feature.

Hotspot selfie tips is the next thing coming to the Google Camera app, it will improve the way we take selfies, yes, it will bring coaching features for better selfies. Talking about new features, then there are a couple of new features coming to the GCam known as Amber and Amethyst, Amber code-named feature is a new video recording feature for Pixel phones. The app also hints at some features exclusive to the upcoming Pixel 7 series phones.

At the time of writing, the new update is available to Pixel users running on Android 13 OS. If you own a Pixel smartphone, then you can update the Google Camera app from the Play Store or you can download it from third-party websites like APKMirror. You can upgrade to the Google Camera 8.5, if you’re running on the older version.
