Google and Samsung are regularly improving the Quick Share, which has now become a universal sharing tool for Android, ChromeOS and Windows devices. A while back, Google rebranded the Nearby Share with Samsung’s Quick Share to improve the seamless sharing experience on Android devices.
Quick Share continues to improve with new features, and it gets another useful features inspired from the AirDrop. Quick Share now supports transfer over Wi-Fi or mobile data even when the connection is interrupted. AirDrop received this feature with the iOS 17.1 update in 2023.
The latest Google Play services version 25.04 brings this enhancement to Quick Share. The same change was also recently added to Quick Share in One UI 7.0 beta, but it now goes official. The new feature has started rolling out, but it may take some time for it to be fully implemented.
This feature was first spotted in October 2024, and finally after a long testing period, Google makes it official. With this addition, Quick Share becomes even more useful.
It’s frustrating when a device disconnects while transferring or receiving files, and you have to repeat the whole process again. However, thanks to this new change, the sharing will not stop even when a device disconnects, as long as they’re both using mobile data or Wi-Fi.
As this process utilizes mobile data and Wi-Fi, be aware that your data will be exhausted if the devices disconnect during the transfer, and this feature is triggered. While small file transfers shouldn’t be a problem, larger files require more data. Therefore, keep this in mind while utilizing this feature.
If the devices are disconnected and the transfer is happening over the internet then the transfer rate will also depend on your internet speed. So if the internet is slow, it may take longer to transfer files compared to a faster transfer speed when the internet speed is higher.
