Google Addresses Four Bugs with August Security Update on Pixel Devices

Google has just released the monthly security upgrade for Pixel phones. With Android 15’s release around the corner, you can’t expect much changes coming with today’s update.

The August 2024 update addresses four bugs including the screen brightness flickering issue, boot loop issues, fix for stability issues when switching from a user without a screen lock, and general improvements for display performance.

The new software update carries the AP2A.240805.005 version number and available for Pixel 5a (5G) and newer devices. The update is also available for the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold. It is a minor patch, you can quickly install it on your device.

If you own a carrier-locked Google Pixel from Telus, then you will receive the update with the following software version.

  • Pixel 8: AP2A.240805.005.D1
  • Pixel 8 Pro: AP2A.240805.005.D1
  • Pixel 8a: AP2A.240805.005.E1

Here’s the complete list of changes coming with the new Pixel August 2024 security update.

  • Display & Graphics
    • Fix for issue with screen brightness flickering under certain conditions *[3]
    • General improvements for display performance and stability in certain conditions *[4]
  • System
    • Fix for issue occasionally causing devices to be in a reboot loop after factory reset in certain conditions *[2]
  • User Interface
    • Fix for stability issues when switching from a user without a screen lock, to a user with a screen lock under certain conditions *[1]

At the moment, the update is rolling in a staged manner, you will receive the update OTA notification once available on your device, you can tap on it and download the update or simply head over to Settings > System > Advanced > System update and install the new software.

You can also manually install it on your Pixel phone by sideloading the update. Theย factory imagesย andย OTA filesย of August 2024 update are already available. But make sure to take a backup before sideloading the new software.
