Fortnite is back on Android and iOS, Thanks to Microsoft

Fortnite is one of the most popular games ever released. The game was so popular that Epic Games brought the game to Android and iOS via the PlayStore and App Store respectively. But soon after the fight with Apple and Google, Fortnite was removed from both the Playstore and the App Store. The reason for the feud was related to some in-app purchase that Apple and Google did not agree to.

After a long hiatus, the game is finally back on iOS and Android via the Xbox cloud gaming service. And it’s free to play and doesn’t require you to purchase an Xbox Game Pass subscription. This is good news for Fortnite players who were not able to play this game after the takedown.

After it was removed from the Play Store, Android users were still able to play it on their phones by sideloading. But for Apple users, it was not possible in any way. Thanks to Microsoft for bringing Fortnite on the cloud service which can be accessible from iPhones, iPads, and Android phones.

Fortnite on Xbox cloud gaming

This partnership between Epic Games and Microsoft gives hope to players and developers for future games. Xbox announced the Fortnite release on their official forum. Here’s a statement from Xbox Cloud Gaming VC.

‘As part of our mission to bring the joy and community of gaming to players wherever they are and to make gaming more accessible to people around the world, I’m excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Epic Games to make Fortnite available on supported browser-enabled devices for free with Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) in 26 countries.’

You could try the VPN for accessing from another country (Where Xbox cloud gaming is not available) but we are not sure it will work or not as we haven’t tested it personally.

Cloud Gaming has improved a lot in the last couple of years, thanks to tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. There are multiple cloud gaming services available like Amazon Luna, Google Stadia, Nvidia Geforce Now, and more.

Just like other cloud gaming, in Xbox Cloud Gaming you don’t need to download Fortnite to play it. You can directly launch the game from the Xbox Cloud Gaming page and play the game as long as your phone is connected to the Internet. Here’s what you need to play the game.

  • A Microsoft account
  • An iOS, iPadOS, Android phone or tablet, or Windows PC
  • Internet Access (High Speed recommended)

Step: Go to Xbox.com/play on your web browser and sign in with your Microsoft Account. You will find Fortnite on the homepage as it joined the cloud service recently. If it’s not visible then search for Fortnite and it will appear. Just make sure the Xbox Cloud Gaming service is available in your country.

You can play Fortnite either using a controller or using the touch. Yes, Fortnite supports native touch controls so you don’t have to buy a controller just to play Fortnite.

If you have tried the Fortnite on Xbox cloud gaming service let us know how your experience was. This will help other users to try the game or not.

    • Hi Nick,
It is not available on App Store and Play Store. It is available through the Xbox cloud gaming service which you can directly play from a browser without installing.
