After rolling out iOS 16.4 to the public yesterday, Apple released the first beta of iOS 16.5 today. As always, the beta update is available to developers first and will soon be rolled out to public beta testers. Let’s find out more about iOS 16.5 beta 1.
Update: The first beta is now also available for Public Beta testers.
This isn’t the first time Apple has released a new beta shortly after releasing a public build. In fact, this happens most of the time. Now that the testing of the fifth major update has started, we are much closer to the announcement of iOS 17 which should happen at the upcoming WWDC event.
Along with the iOS 16.5 Beta 1, Apple also released iPadOS 16.5 Beta 1, watchOS 9.5 Beta 1, macOS Ventura 13.4 Beta 1, and tvOS 16.5 Beta 1. The first iOS 16.5 Beta 1 comes with build number 20F5028e. As it’s the first beta update of the new iOS 16 series, the update weighs around 5GB.
Since beta 1 released just now, we are not aware of its changes and new features. But once we find changes, we will add them below.
- New Modem Update
- You can now command Siri to start/stop screen recording for you
- New Sports section in Apple News
- Apple Pay later finally began to roll out with this update
With the last update, Apple made some changes to beta updates. To receive beta builds you now have to log in with the registered developer account or the account opted for public beta. But it wasn’t working for some users in the last beta builds. It should now work in the new beta series.
So if you have logged in with your developer account or public account opted for beta, you will see the first iOS 16.5 Beta 1 on your iPhone. For now, the first beta is available to developers, but it will be available to public beta testers soon. You can check for the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
Before upgrading your phone to the new update, make sure to back up all your important data and charge your phone to 50%.
