We’ve reached the specific part of the year when Google releases preview builds of its upcoming Android version. The tech titan has already released two preview builds of Android 14. This begins the Android 14 journey for third-party app developers and beta testers. If you have a Pixel phone, here you can download Android 14 Developer Preview 2 factory image and OTA image.
Like every year, Google will follow the same pattern for releasing its developer and beta builds this year as well. The roadmap starts from February with the first developer preview to August with the stable public build release. The time given for stable build may change depending on the situation.
According to the current roadmap, there will be two developer previews and a total of four public beta releases. So it means that there will be an update every month before the stable release. But this will only interest users with Pixel phones. If you have a Pixel phone, you can start testing Android 14 today.
Before we get to the download section, Google has made a few changes to the list of eligible devices since last year that you should know. Here is the list of Google Pixel phones eligible for Android 14.

The first developer preview build of Android 14 doesn’t bring major changes but there are definitely a lot of small changes to improve the usage of Android. And since this is only the first developer preview, we will likely see a lot of changes in the upcoming Android 14 build.
Android 14 Developer Preview 1 brings different Battery settings which now has two modes for battery saver. Users can choose between basic battery saver and extreme battery saver. It was available earlier but first users had to enable basic battery saver to get the option for extreme battery saver.

Before you install the Android 13 update, here are a few things you need to keep in mind.
- Make a backup of all your data that is present on your device to either a cloud storage service like Google Drive or to your PC.
- All of your data will be erased when you are sideloading the developer preview (NA for OTA)
- Since it’s a very first build, there can be bugs that range from minor issues to ones that could be unbearable.
- Keep a copy of the latest stable version of Android for your device available. You might need to roll back to it if things go bad.
- Beta is available only for Google Pixel devices starting from Pixel 4a 5G and all the devices released including the Pixel 7 Pro.
- If you are going to use OTA image, unlocking bootloader is recommended
