Android 13 is finally here for the Google Pixel phones after many months of beta testing. And as the stable Android 13 has been already released other OEMs will also speed up their Android 13 based Custom OS. OnePlus and Samsung have already released OxygenOS 13 and One UI 5 respectively.
Talking about Oppo, the ColorOS 13 is globally announced and it is based on Android 13. And now that the ColorOS 13 is official, let’s talk about ColorOS 13 Supported Devices, Release Date, and Features. Release date including the stable version.
Oppo is already testing Android 13 based ColorOS 13 beta on the Oppo Find X5 and Find X5 Pro and it was released earlier this week. But at that time Oppo didn’t officially announce the ColorOS 13 Global, but it’s now official with new features which are similar to OxygenOS 13. And it’s no surprise. Although OnePlus canceled the plan to rename OxygenOS, all the features and UI are going to be the same.
Android 12 was one of the biggest upgrades in terms of UI changes, but unfortunately, Oppo didn’t bring all of its features last year on Android 12 based ColorOS 12. But looks like Oppo is bringing some material you inspired UI on some cases.
OnePlus also announced it’s Android 13 based OxygenOS 13 this month, and hardly there are any differences in terms of new features. It’s all same on both OS. And so that being said, let’s move on to the release date of ColorOS 13.
ColorOS 13 Release Date
Last year, everything was delayed for obvious reasons, but this year Google released Android 13 on time. And this means Oppo will also release its stable ColorOS 13 earlier than the last year’s ColorOS 12.
Oppo announced the ColorOS 13 global version on August 18. And it is already available for testing on Find X5 and Find X5 Pro in different regions.
Oppo has also revealed the ColorOS 13 Beta rollout plan for Oppo devices. And more than 35 Oppo phones will be getting the Android 13 based ColorOS 13 beta update by the end of this year. Oppo Find X5 and Find X5 Pro will be the first two phones to get stable ColorOS 13. And the stable ColorOS 13 is expected to arrive in October. Well, this is my guess based on the ColorOS 12 release. But once we have more information we will update the article with the latest information available.
Once the stable ColorOS 13 is released to the Find X5 series, Oppo will target other flagship phones first, followed by new mid-range and budget phones. And it may even take a year for Oppo to cover all the Oppo phones, considering that there are still some eligible Oppo phones that are yet to receive Android 12.
Now that you have an idea about the release window, let now head to the expected features section.
ColorOS 13 Features
ColorOS 13 comes with some new features including UI changes. Let’s see what are the new features in Android 13 based ColorOS 13.
Aquamorphic Design
Just like the OxygenOS 13, the ColorOS 13 comes with an Aquamorphic design. The design shown in the posters looks great. It makes the UI fluid, and vibrant. This design can be found in many system animations and UI.
Control Center
ColorOS 13 also brings major changes to the Control Center also known as Quick Settings. The new Quick Setting let users choose the shape of the icons present in the Control Center. This is similar to how some launchers offer to change the shape of app icons like circles, squares, etc.
Some controls like WiFi and Internet toggle are also inspired by the Android 13. The quick setting also includes Music control.
Improved Animation
Oppo keeps on improving the animations of its custom UI with each major release. And the ColorOS 13 come with Quantum Animation Engine 4.0 for fluid animation. So switching between apps, opening apps and other animations will be better.
Optimized battery performance and low latency
ColorOS 13 comes with optimized battery performance. So you can expect better battery life in your Oppo phone with the ColorOS 13 update. And another performance related improvement is the lower latency compared to ColorOS 12.
Smart AOD
There is also some new addition to Always on display. The new AOD series is called Homeland which shows animals along with some part of their homeland changes to remind people to pay attention to climate change.
And now AOD can now show the music playing and other information related to delivery apps. For e.g. if your food is arriving in 10 minutes, you will see the same information in AOD.
Large Apps folders
ColorOS 13 support large app folders on the homescreen which auto-switch the size as per the available space. The folder can contain up to 9 apps in the square shape, so three apps in a row. And users will be able to open the app directly without opening the folder first. These folders will be the size of large widgets as you can see in the attached image.
Multi-device user experience
ColorOS 13 also improves the multi device user experience. The new improved feature allows seamless connectivity between smartphone and OPPO Pad Air, and between smartphone and PC. This also improved the file transfer between the connected devices.
Other changes include the renaming of Oppo Sans to OPlus Sans, set of new wallpapers, new widgets, Android 13 privacy features, and more.
