Nothing recently launched its new budget smartphone, the CMF Phone 2 Pro. This is the first time we are getting a Pro moniker device under CMF branding. The device does bring a lot of interesting features, such as a rare-to-find 50-megapixel telephoto lens, a 5000mAh battery (that’s optimised very well), and a 120Hz panel.
It’s been nearly a month since I’ve been using the CMF Phone 2 Pro, and during my usage, I’ve found several tips and tricks that are hidden beneath the NothingOS, which you should know about. And so, here we are, a dedicated post on Top Tips & Tricks of the all-new CMF Phone 2 Pro!
1. Change App Drawer Mode
The CMF Phone 2 Pro carries the same NothingOS skin as the expensive Nothing devices. And therefore, there’s no cut-down on the features or optimisation. One of the good features of the NothingOS is two different app drawer modes. One is standard, which is like any other Android device. But then comes a “Smart” App Drawer mode. This is a very unique and useful feature.
So what exactly Smart App Drawer does is that it arranges the apps into their respective categories, e.g. Social Media, Productivity, etc. So, if you have a lot of apps on your device and using the Smart mode in the app drawer can be very useful. (I’m personally using it, and it’s simply amazing!)
2. Installing Third-Party Icon Packs
NothingOS, by default, supports third-party icon packs, which is a very nice feature. All you have to do is – first install any icon pack of your choice, then long press on the homescreen, tap on “Customization” and then tap on “Icon Pack”. Select the Icon Pack you want to apply, and that’s it. While the built-in monochrome and stock icon pack of the NothingOS is good, it becomes boring after a while, and here, the support of third-party icon packs comes in clutch.
3. AI-Generated Wallpaper
Now, another thing you can do to give your device a standalone look is to use the built-in AI Wallpaper feature. To access this, go to settings, then go to Customization, and then click on “More Wallpapers” and then “Wallpaper Studio”.
You will now be able to see a plethora of styles such as Sky, Black and White, Terrain, Painting, etc. Combine any two according to your liking and then click on Generate Wallpaper. You can also click on “Surprise Me”, and the AI will use a random style combination to create a unique wallpaper for your device. You can apply it from the same page, once the wallpaper has been generated.
4. Setting Up Lockscreen Customization
Gone are the days when you had to unlock the smartphone to access certain features, such as sound profile or internet, etc. On NothingOS, you can add shortcuts and widgets directly on your lock screen. Once set up, you can use these shortcuts to control the added features or functionality without unlocking the device.
To access lockscreen customization, long-press on the blank spot on the homescreen and then click on “Customization” and then slide right to access Lockscreen customization.
5. Setup Power Off Verify
This is one of the most important tips or settings to enable on your CMF Phone 2 Pro. This feature basically adds a layer of protection to your power-off page, and it can be a lifesaver in some scenarios.
Basically, anyone will have to first enter the password before accessing the power menu of the device, and subsequently, no one will be able to power off the device without entering the password. To enable this, go to Settings > Security and Privacy > More Security and Privacy > Power off verify.
6. Cloned Apps
The CMF Phone 2 Pro comes with built-in support for clone apps. Which means, if you have two different accounts on any social media platform, be it Instagram, WhatsApp or YouTube, you will no longer have to install third-party apps to access them.
Go to Settings > Special Features > Cloned Apps and enable the option for the app you want to clone. This will clone the app, and you will now be able to use two accounts of that particular app simultaneously.
7. Custom Charging Mode
Another great feature that you get with the CMF Phone 2 Pro is the ability to adjust the custom charging limit. While the modern-day devices are good enough in battery longevity, it’s always better not to fully charge them again and again to minimize battery damage over time.
Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Custom Charging Mode. Now you can set the charging limit to 70%, 80%, and 90%. Once enabled, the software will automatically end the charging once it reaches the preset level.
8. Camera LUTs
Just like the Nothing Phone 3a series, the CMF Phone 2 Pro also has the support of custom LUTs. And this is no doubt one of the best features of the gadget. The device has some built-in presets available, and you can import /cube files for additional presets as well.
To access the LUTs, open the camera up, swipe up from the bottom menu, and the LUTs menu will now open. You get good presets like Lenticular and Black & White, and a few more. Use them to get fun clicks with your camera.
9. AirPods support
While you can connect AirPods with Android devices, but you do not get that fancy-looking icon and battery info on the settings page. However, that’s not the case with CMF Phone 2 Pro. Go to Settings > Special Features > Experimental Features > AirPods support. Turn the toggle on. You will now see the AirPods icon and battery info in the settings once you connect them.
10. Extra Dim
Modern-day devices have displays that are very bright. Some go as high as 2000-nits in the high brightness mode. And the CMF Phone 2 Pro is one of them. However, while this is a good feature, it creates a problem while using the device at night, especially if you have sensitive eyes.
CMF Phone 2 Pro comes with an “Extra Dim” feature that dims the display’s brightness beyond normal and therefore making it comfortable in low-light and night usage. You can enable it by going to Settings > Accessibility > Extra dim.
So these were some of the best tips and tricks for the CMF Phone 2 Pro. If you have just got the device or have it already, enable the aforementioned options, and it will elevate your overall user experience.
