How to Install Chrome Extensions on Android

Till now you already have got an idea that we are going to use Kiwi Browser to use Chrome Extensions. There are two methods to install Chrome extensions on Kiwi Browser. If you are using Chrome browser for a long time then you know both the methods. One is download from webstore and the second is manually install the extension from file.

Prerequisites

  • Download and Install Kiwi Browser on your Android Phone (Link)
  • You can also download it from XDA Labs and Play Store (if the latest version available)

Steps to Install Google Chrome Extension on Android

Using Chrome Extension Page:

  1. Open Kiwi Browser on your phone.
  2. Click on three dots on the top right corner.
  3. Select Extensions and enable “Developer mode”. chrome extensions on Android
  4. On the extension page, click on three bars and open Kiwi Web Store (basically Chrome Web Store). chrome extensions on Android
  5. Search for the Extension you want to install on Android Phone.
  6. Click on Add to Chrome which will open a popup to ask permission so click on OK. 
  7. It will start downloading the extension and then the extension will be automatically added to the Browser. chrome extensions on Android

Using CRX File:

  1. Open Kiwi Browser on your phone.
  2. Click on three dots on the top right corner.
  3. Select Extensions and enable “Developer mode”.
  4. Install TotalCommander File Manager and RAR on your phone.
  5. Download the crx file of the extension that you want to install. Download from this site.
  6. Now change the extension of the file from .crx to .zip.
  7. Open RAR and Unzip the file.
  8. Now go to Kiwi Browser > Extension > Load Unpacked. chrome extensions on Android
  9. Locate the manifest.json (available inside the extracted folder) using TotalCommander (TotalCmd file://url). If it gives error related to “_metadata”, then first remove the underscore (_) from metadata (metadata folder will be in the extracted folder when the manifest.json file is present). Then again load the extension.
  10. After loading unpacked extension reload the extension page in Kiwi browser.
  11. The extension is now installed on Kiwi Browser.

  1. I have kiwibrowser for android and would love to know how to add a background or wallpaper, theme etc.
    Have spent hours on this…….chrome flags etc.
    One forum I went to and posted said it could be done.
    Any help is truly apreciated!

    • Hi Jack,
      Try installing extensions manually in the browser. For this first download the crx, zip or js file and then load the file on your browser’s extension section. Also before load make sure to enable Developer Mode.

  2. Hi, thank you for the answer.
    But my problem is when I expand the file commander menu (top left), I only have “Total Commander” but not “TotalCMD file:url//”
    My TotalCommander app is the latest version and didn’t see any option for that…
