August 2023 Android Security Update is out for Pixel Phones, squashes UI issues

While many of us anticipate that Google might release the stable Android 14 update for the Pixel lineup, the tech titan continues with the gradual Android security updates based on Android 13. Yes, the August 2023 security update is out for Pixel phones, it also squashes a bunch of issues related to Bluetooth connectivity and User Interface. Read on to know all details about the Pixel August 2023 update.

As always, Google officially shares all details on the Pixel support forum, new factory images and OTA files are also available for download and manual sideloading. As per the details, the newer incremental upgrade comes out with the TQ3A.230805.001 software version number. Today’s patch weighs only 35MB in size, you can quickly install it on your Pixel.

The software version for Pixel Fold in Japan is TQ3C.230805.001.A4. If you own a Pixel 6 series device with the following carriers in the US – T-Mobile & MVNOs, Google Fi receives the new system upgrade with the TQ3A.230805.001.A1 build number, whereas the Pixel devices from Verizon & MVNOs in the US get the new security update with TQ3A.230805.001.A2 firmware version.

Moving to the changes, then the August update for Pixel phones addresses the issue causing certain Live Wallpapers not displaying properly in different device orientations, the lock screen does not respond properly, not being able to register search inputs in the home screen launch, flickering issues in Hub mode, and also fix the connectivity issues with Bluetooth keyboards.

    • Fix for issue occasionally causing Bluetooth keyboards to not connect [Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet]
  • User Interface
    • Fix for issue causing certain Live Wallpapers to display incorrectly in different device orientations [Pixel Fold]
    • Fix for issue occasionally causing lock screen to not respond [Pixel Fold]
    • Fix for issue occasionally causing home screen launcher search input to not register [Pixel Fold]
    • Fix for issue occasionally causing flickering or glitches while in Hub Mode [Pixel Tablet]

If you own a Google Pixel smartphone or even the newly released Pixel Fold or Pixel Tablet, then you can now update it to August 2023 security update. The update is rolling in a staged manner, you will receive the OTA notification once available on your device, you can tap on it and download the update or simply head over to the Settings > System > Advanced > System update and install the new software.
