This week goes to Apple as the third iOS of the week is here. Yes, you read it right, this week Apple already released iOS 14.6 RC1, then iOS 14.7 Beta 1, and now Apple surprises with the second iOS 14.6 Release Candidate update. When Apple released iOS 14.7 Beta 1 and iPadOS 14.7 Beta 1, we were expecting the iOS 14.6 public build to be the next update. But nowadays surprises from Apple are common. Here you will know about the iOS 14.6 Release Candidate 2 and iPadOS 14.6 Release Candidate 2.

We don’t generally see two different release candidates unless there are some major security issues or bugs. The last time we got two release candidates were during iOS 14.3 which addresses a big security flaw. So this iOS 14.6 Release Candidate will sort of bug fix that you may have been getting in the first Release Candidate. Release Candidates are the same as stable and so Apple doesn’t want to release any update to the public which has known bugs.

iOS 14.6 Release Candidate 2

Only iOS 14.6 and iPadOS 14.6 Release Candidates had issues and so we are seeing a second release candidate only for iOS 14.6 and iPadOS 14.6. Bothe iOS 14.6 RC2 and iPadOS 14.6 RC2 come with the build version 18F72. And we are hoping this would fix all the bugs and we see the public build next week.

As we mentioned earlier Apple only releases more than one release candidate for an iOS update only when there are major bugs or security issues. So, in this update, you will only see bug fixes. If you have a green tint issue on your iPhone, then it may be fixed in this update. Also, Apple has fixed the Apple CarPlay bug that some users had. iOS 14.6 RC 2 and iPadOS RC 2 come in a small update size which can vary a little depending on the device.

The update is available to developers as of now, but it will be available to the public tester in a few hours or days. You will get the update directly on your device. You will not receive the update if you have already upgraded to iOS 14.7 Beta 1 as you can’t downgrade without using a PC. So if you are on the iOS 14.6 RC 1 then you can update your iPhone or iPad by going to Settings > Software Update. You need to click on Download & Install button to install the update.

But in case if you are not a beta tester and using a public build let’s say iOS 14.5.1, then you will not receive the update. You can install the second release candidate using a PC to install IPSW. I will recommend waiting for another week for public release. But if you want to test you can install the beta profile on your iPhone or iPad to get the latest beta or Release Candidate.

Install iOS 14.6 Beta Profile and iPadOS 14.6 Beta Profile

  1. Go to theย Apple Beta Software programย site.
  2. Then scroll down a bit and click on Sign in if you have Apple ID.
  3. On the next page, select the correct OS for your devices likeย iOS 14ย or iPadOS 14.
  4. Scroll down till Getting Started and click on Enroll your iOS device.
  5. Now you need to install a profile from the next Page. For this, click on the Download Profile.
  6. After installing the Profile, reboot your device. And you are ready to install iOS 14.6 Release Candidate 2 on your iPhone.

After installing the beta profile, you can go toย Settings > Software Updateย to install the latest update on your iPhone or iPad. You can also install iOS 14.6 RC2 with the full IPSW file using Finder or iTunes.
