Apple seeds third beta of iPadOS 16.4 to developers

iPadOS 16.4 third beta is out! The incremental release comes alongside the newer iOS beta, watchOS beta, and other updates. The new update comes one week after the release of second beta. Apple is pushing the incremental beta with a bunch of features, enhancements, and fixes. Read along to know more details about the update.

Apple is pushing the new firmware to the iPad with 20E5229e build number, weighs 526MB of download size. At the moment, the update is available for developers, it will be released for public beta testers in a couple of days. Once the upgrade goes live you can easily install it if you own a compatible iPad. For compatibility, the iPadOS 16.4 is available for iPad 5th generation and newer models.

Since Apple has already rolled out three big releases since iOS 16, we are not expecting many big changes in this beta run. But still, there are some new features coming with the iPadOS 16.4.

Apple is releasing the iPadOS 16.4 beta with new emojis, Safari update which adds support for web push for home screen web apps, badging API, focus support for Web push, add to home screen via third party browsers, screen wake lock, and more.

The new software also brings a big change for those who prefer installing beta updates on their Apple devices. Apple now lets you choose whether you want to update to public beta or developer beta directly in the Software updates and the change is also available for iPad users in iPadOS 16.4. With this change, Apple will prevent users from installing free developer beta profiles. Yes, there’s no need to install a profile, if you are signed in with your developer account, you will see the new option.

Now lets take a look at the steps on how you can update your iPad to iPadOS 16.4 beta 3.

If you want to test the new beta on your eligible iPad then you need to install the beta profile if it’s not already installed. If the beta profile is installed you can go to Settings > General > Software Update. And once the update is available tap Download and Install.

Before installing the update make sure to backup important data and charge your phone to at least 50%.
