Apple seeds iOS 16.4 Beta 1 with some new Emojis

Finally, after a long wait, Apple has started testing a new major update that is a part of iOS 16. Apple released the first beta of iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 to developers. Like previous updates, it will soon be available to beta testers. Let’s find out more about the latest iOS 16.4 beta 1 update.

Earlier this week Apple released iOS 16.3.1, an incremental update that fixes some of the issues present in iOS 16.3. And now brings the option for developers and beta testers to test the upcoming builds. We’ve been waiting for the beta update for almost three weeks and it’s finally here.

Along with the first iOS 16.4 beta, Apple also releases iPadOS 16.4 Beta 1, macOS Ventura 13.3 Beta 1, tvOS 16.4 Beta 1, watchOS 9.4 Beta 1, macOS Big Sur 11.7.5 RC, and macOS Monterey 12.6.4 RC. The iOS 16.4 Beta 1 comes with build number 20E5212f. It is the first beta and many more to come before its public release.

Talking about the changes, the update was released only a few minutes back and so we are collecting the data. As of now, there is one official change that Apple shared which you can read below.

“Beginning with iOS & iPadOS 16.4 beta, members of the Apple Developer Program will see a new option to enable developer betas directly from Software Update in Settings. This new option will be automatically enabled on devices already enrolled in the program that update to the latest beta release. Your iPhone or iPad must be signed in with the same Apple ID you used to enroll in the Apple Developer Program in order to see this option in Settings. In future iOS and iPadOS releases, this new setting will be the way to enable developer betas and configuration profiles will no longer grant access”.

This means the beta profile will not work from the next bet update. And instead, the device will fetch if your ID is a developer or general ID and will give the advanced software update setting based on the ID. Till now it was possible to download and install the beta profile inofficially but it will not work anymore.

Other Changes:

  • iOS 16.4 also brings 20 new emojis. But users at the receiver end should also be on the latest build to see the new emoji.
  • Under Settings > About > Coverage, you can see AppleCare coverage for all your connected Apple products.
  • 5G Standalone option in Voice & Data Settings. And the first beta also brings 5G support in Turkey.
  • Multiple changes in the keyboard
  • Always on Display focus filter on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • New widgets for Order tracking
  • Small visual changes in multiple apps

We will add more changes once we find them.

As of now the iOS 16.4 Beta 1 is rolling out to developers. But it will be available to public beta testers soon maybe within a day. If you have installed iOS 16 beta profile (it will not work from the next beta), then you can easily check for the update. Check for the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Before updating your iPhone, make sure to backup your data to your PC or iCloud and charge it to at least 50%.
