Apple releases seventh watchOS 9 beta for developers

Apple has just released the seventh beta of watchOS 9. At the time of writing, the new incremental upgrade is available to developers only. The public beta will be released later today or tomorrow. And with every incremental beta release, we’re getting closer to the public release of watchOS 9.

Apple kicks off the watchOS 9 beta 7 with the 20R5359a firmware version. The latest incremental beta upgrade weighs only 156MB in size, compared to the 210MB on the last beta. The size confirms that it is a small upgrade that can be installed quickly on eligible Apple Watches.

As always, the new watchOS upgrade comes along with the new iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and tvOS 16 incremental betas. And if you own the Apple Watch Series 4 or newer model, then you can easily install the new software on your watch, all you need to do is, join the Apple developer beta program or public beta program.

Speaking of the changes then, the changelog hints at bug fixes and improvements. As we are close to the public release of watchOS 9, we cannot expect anything new in this build. With the fifth beta, Apple fixed the third-party complications disappearing issue after restarting the watch. Now let’s take a look at the installation steps.

watchOS 9 Beta 7 Update

If your iPhone or iPad is running on the latest version of iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 developer beta, then you can easily sideload the update on your Watch.

  1. At first, you need to login to Apple Developer Program website.
  2. Then, head over to the downloads.
  3. Tap on watchOS 9 beta 7 available under featured downloads. Then tap on the download button.
  4. Now install watchOS 9 beta 7 profile on your iPhone, then authorize the profile by going to Settings > General > Profiles.
  5. Now restart your iPhone.

Make sure that your Apple Watch is charged at least 50% and connected to a WiFi network. After installing the beta profile, open the Apple Watch app on your phone, head over to General > Software Update > Download and Install, then install the new software.

Now the watchOS 9 beta 7 update will download and transfer to your Apple Watch. And after the completion of the installation process, your watch will restart. Once all done, you can start using your Apple Watch.
