A new iOS update, iOS 17.2.1 is rolling out to the Public. The new update is available for iPhone XR and newer. This is a small update with only minor but important fixes. Those who are on a iOS 16 build are also getting iOS 16.7.4 update.
Earlier this week, Macrumors had already reported that Apple is working on iOS 17.2.1, which was true. And the update comes at the right time as Apple will not be releasing any updates next week or maybe even another week after that.
Today, Apple released iOS 17.2.1, iOS 16.7.4, iPadOS 16.7.4, and macOS Sonoma 14.2.1. Until now, only these four updates have been released by Apple today. The iOS 17.2.1 update comes with build number 21C66 and weighs 224MB. And the iOS 16.7.4 update comes with build number 20H240.
If Apple releases incremental updates soon after a big update, its because there is a major bug or security issue with previous update. And that makes these incremental iOS updates quite important. But Apple doesn’t share what they have fixed leaving users clueless. The update only states that it provides important bug fixes and is recommended for all users. Users can check and analyze the bugs encountered in previous updates and find out what has been fixed in this update.
The iOS 17.2.1 is available to all users with eligible iPhone and haven’t installed beta update. If you are facing bugs on iOS 17.2, this update might fix some of them. You can check for the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
If you have opted for beta, but haven’t installed iOS 17.3 beta, then you can turn off the beta option in Software Update and you will see the iOS 17.2.1 update. Before updating your iPhone, take a backup of your data and charge it to at least 50%.
