Apple releases iOS 16 Release Candidate to developers and beta testers

After two months of beta testing, iOS 16 is going to be released to the public next week. However, the stable build is already out for beta testers as a release candidate build. Today Apple releases the iOS 16 Release Candidate for eligible iPhones. It is the final build for all beta users.

Note: iOS 15.7 Release Candidate is also out for beta testers.

Before this release candidate build, Apple already released eight developer beta builds and six public beta builds. And in these beta builds, Apple introduced a bunch of new features that were mentioned by Apple in its last event. Not only new addition but also these beta builds fixed most of the known issues.

Along with the iOS 16 RC, Apple also releases watchOS 9 RC, tvOS 16 RC, macOS 12.6 RC, iOS 15.7 RC, and iPadOS 15.7 RC. The iOS 16 release candidate comes with build number 20A362. And the build number for iOS 15.7 RC is 19H12. And since it is similar to public build, the update weighs more around 5GB.

iOS 16 is one of the biggest upgrades that brings a new redesigned lock screen which can be customized further by the user. Not only just the lock screen, but the new major iOS release also features a bunch of new additions, improvements, and more. But these features are already known to beta users so you might not see much in terms of new features. But you can expect stability and improvements.

The iOS 16 Release Candidate is available to developers as well as public beta testers. If you don’t know, the Release Candidate is the same build that will release next week to the public. So you can say it is the final build for beta testers.

If you are on the last beta build, then you will receive the update on your supported iPhone. To check for the update, go to Settings > General > Software Update. In case you want to update to the public build next week, you can skip the update and remove the beta profile from your iPhone.

If you want to install the iOS 16 RC and iPadOS 16 RC you can follow the detailed installation guide here. In case you want to downgrade, you can follow this guide. Or you can wait out for the Public build as it will release soon next week.
