Apple releases iOS 14.6 RC and iPadOS 14.6 RC

The Release Candidate build of iOS 14.6 and iPadOS 14.6 is here for iPhones and iPads respectively. This came just after a week of the last iOS 14.6 Beta 3 update. As we mentioned last week that next will be the release candidate as per the build number. And it’s no surprise that Apple released iOS 14.6 RC and iPadOS 14.6 RC for beta testers. It’s not a big update like iOS 14.5 but still comes with notable changes. Here we will give more info on iOS 14.6 RC and iPadOS 14.6 RC updates.

The Release Candidate or formerly known as Golden Master is the same update as a stable build. It is released a week before the public stable build only for beta testers. Today Apple also announced spatial audio and lossless audio for Apple music subscribers which will be available starting June. And iOS 14.6 Release Candidate and iPadOS 14.6 Release Candidate brings changes related to the new Hi-Fi music streaming.

iOS 14.6 Release Candidate

Along with iOS 14.6 RC and iPadOS 14.6 RC, Apple also released macOS Big Sur 11.4 RC, tvOS 14.6 RC, and watchOS 7.5 RC. Since the update is the same as stable, it will weigh more as compared to incremental beta updates. Both updates come with build number 18F71 which will be the same for the public stable build.

iOS 14.6 RC and iPadOS 14.6 RC – What’s New

The main feature of the iOS 14.6 RC is the Spatial audio and Lossless audio support. However, it will be available to users starting June. It will be available to Apple Music subscribers at no extra cost. So, if you already a Subscriber you will soon get this feature on your device. Many songs will support these features after the release of this feature, but Apple will be adding more songs with the support for both features.

In Apple Music, under some songs info, you will find an icon saying Apple Digital Master. This is also related to spatial audio and lossless audio.

There are some changes in options under Settings > Music. You will find changes in the placement of Music Settings and a new option for High Efficiency under Cellular Streaming.

There are also some changes in Apple Card Family sharing, Podcasts subscription, AirTag, and Find My. And as usual, the update also fixes many bugs from the last update.
