Apple kicks off the fourth beta of iPadOS 16.4

Apple has started rolling out the iPadOS 16.4’s fourth beta to developers and public beta testers. Three beta builds are already out and seeding with a number of new features. But, we cannot expect the same from the fourth beta, which will instead focus on performance improvements. Read along to know about iPadOS 16.4 fourth beta update.

If you own a compatible iPad then you will receive the new incremental upgrade with the 20E5239b build number. The public beta weighs 341MB in size on the iPad, which is around 200MB less compared to the third beta. As the public beta is out you can freely update your iPad to a newer version. For compatibility, the iPadOS 16.4 is available for iPad 5th generation and newer models.

Apple could release the iPadOS 16.4 to the public on March 28, the company has scheduled the Apple Classical Music app release for the same day. So, we can expect the release candidate next week and a stable build on March 28. Yes, it will also be available on the iPad.

Moving to the features available on iPadOS 16.4, then Apple is testing the new update with features including new emojis, Safari update which adds support for web push for home screen web apps, badging API, focus support for Web push, add to home screen via third party browsers, screen wake lock, and more.

The new software also brings a big change for those who prefer installing beta updates on their Apple devices. Apple now lets you choose whether you want to update to public beta or developer beta directly in the Software updates and the change is also available for iPad users in iPadOS 16.4. With this change, Apple will prevent users from installing free developer beta profiles. Yes, there’s no need to install a profile, if you are signed in with your developer account, you will see the new option.

Now lets take a look at the steps on how you can update your iPad to iPadOS 16.4 beta 4.

If you want to test the new beta on your eligible iPad then you need to install the beta profile if itโ€™s not already installed. If the beta profile is installed you can go to Settings > General > Software Update. And once the update is available tap Download and Install.

Before installing the update make sure to backup important data and charge your phone to at least 50%.
