Google has finally released Android 16 to the public. This is not the only update released today, but the June Pixel Drop and Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 are also out. Here, weโll focus on the second beta of Android 16 QPR1, which will be released to the public in the next quarter as Pixel Drop.
Google began testing the Android 16 QPR1 in the latter half of May. The first beta introduced some of the Material 3 Expressive changes. The second beta is focused on bug fixes and also brings a developer preview of Dex-like desktop mode.
The Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 is available for Pixel devices with build number BP31.250523.006, and it is still based on the May security patch. As mentioned earlier, the second beta is more like a bug fix update that addresses many known issues. Here are the known bug fixes.
- Auto dark theme is not working
- Now playing is crashing when selecting a track
- Camera frequently fails to launch
- Shortcuts for newly-downloaded apps aren’t automatically added
- Home button not working on app list UI
- “More wallpapers” button misaligned in wallpaper settings
- Gemini fails to work on the lockscreen
If youโve installed the first beta of Android 16 QPR1 on your Pixel phone, the second beta will be available through an over-the-air update. However, if youโre on a public build, you can easily enroll in the beta program to test the new QPR beta and the upcoming beta builds.
Before installing the update, make sure to back up important data and charge your device to at least 50%.
