Google recently released the first build of Android 13 Developer Preview. You can try out Android 13 Developer Preview 1 on an eligible Pixel phone using the steps described here. But if you don’t have a Pixel phone and want to test out Android 13 DP1, you can test it using the Android Emulator. Here in this guide, we will show you how to install Android 13 on PC using Android Emulator.
As the testing of Android 13 has just started, it is not safe to install it on the primary device. But we can test it on a secondary device as it may contain bugs including major bugs. But it is also true that not everyone has a secondary device to test with. So in that case google allows us to configure a new test build on android emulator. So if you have a PC then you can easily get Android 13 DP1 on Android Emulator to test out the new features of Android 13.
Android 13 comes with many changes along with better security and privacy. We all want to test the latest version of Android but there are several constraints that prevent us from doing so. This makes testing Android 13 difficult, but thanks to Google for providing methods that help us simplify the process like using Android Emulator.

Now let’s see how to set up the Android Emulator for Android 13.
- Download the latest preview of Android Studio from here.
- Extract and install the Android Studio Preview on your PC.
- Open the Android Studio and go to Tools > SDK Manager.
- Now in the SDK Tools tab, select the latest Android Emulator. Click OK to install the latest version of Emulator.
- In Android Studio, go to Tools > AVD Manager. Create the Android Virtual Device with the instructions it shows. Make sure to select Android 13 eligible Pixel phone, and 64-bit Android 13 image when creating AVD.
- Now go to the AVD Manager again and then launch the Android 13 virtual machine by double-clicking on it.
- That’s it, now you can use all the Android 13 DP1 features.
If you have an eligible Pixel phone that you are using as a spare then you can directly install Android 13 DP1 in it to get the experience of a phone. Using it on a PC and Phone gives different experiences, but if you don’t have a Pixel phone then an emulator is still a good option. Here is the list of eligible Pixel phones.
