Android 12L goes live for Pixel Phones with two-column layout and more

Google has just released the much-awaited Android 12L to the public. Yes, the update goes live for Pixel phones. Google hasnโ€™t issued a small update in the past few years, instead, the company stuck with bugs fixes releases after announcing the yearly major upgrades. Abandoning the old custom, this time Google has released Android 12L for the Pixel phones. Read along to know more about the Android 12L update.

Android 12L was originally announced in October last year. Later, we have seen a couple of beta builds of it with fixes and improvements. As the upgrade comes out of beta, you can taste the new features coming from the Android 12L. Although, the Android 12L is focused on improvements for large screen phones and tablets. At the time of writing, the update is available for Pixel phones, will come to non-pixel phones later this year.

Google drops the support for Pixel 3 and 3 XL. If you own a Pixel 3a or newer model, then you can update your phone to the Android 12L. Here are all models eligible for Pixel phones.

  • Pixel 3a and 3a XL
  • Pixel 4 and 4 XL
  • Pixel 4a and 4a 5G
  • Pixel 5 and 5a
  • Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

Before moving ahead, letโ€™s talk about the features coming with Android 12L. As per the information, the update brings a two-column layout along with other improvements, it also brings a new layout to the quick settings/notification panel.

If you want to do multi-tasking, then you can use the newly added taskbar which works similar to the taskbar on Chrome OS and Windows. The settings app also gets a two-column layout. Apart from that, we can expect system-wide improvements.

Download Android 12L for Pixel Phones

If youโ€™re using the Pixel 3a or newer and want to taste the new features of Android 12L, then you can update your phone to the new OS. You can check the software updates in the Settings app or you can sideload the Android 12L, using factory image or OTA. Here are the download links.

Lenovo is testing Android 12L on its Tab P12 Pro, we can expect a stable build in the coming months. Apart from that, the update will join the foldables and tablets later this year.
