Apple has finally given the world a preview of its new major iOS version – iOS 27. Yes, this preview took place during the WWDC event that just took place. As it is with new iOS versions, there are two important questions that all iOS users ask: what are the new features coming in the new iOS version, and will my iOS device be supported by iOS 27?
Will be answering those two questions in case you missed watching the WWDC event by telling you all the new features that come to iOS 27 and also the devices that are eligible for the brand-new iOS update. Let’s get started.
Everything New in iOS 27
iOS 27’s major improvement will be in its AI: i.e., the Apple Intelligence department. While this sounds like good news, not all iPhones eligible for iOS 27 will have access to the new and improved AI. Read on to know more about it.
Brand New Siri AI
Siri AI is finally happening and is expected to be a lot smarter than its existing form. Based on the new foundation models by Apple, Siri AI will now behave as a conversational assistant and will be present on your iOS device in a dedicated new Siri AI app. This smarter Siri AI will now have content for your queries and will be able to get information from your messages, photos, and even your emails.

The new Siri AI app will also host all your previous conversations as history, which can also be synced via iCloud to any of your other iOS devices that support Siri AI. Users will also be seeing a new Siri module within the Camera app that will give you nutrition details about your food.
While the new Siri AI does sound like a good upgrade and feature that users have been waiting for since its announcement back in 2024, only users with the iPhone 15 and newer will get access to Siri AI. Additionally, users in the European region, for the time being, will not have access to Siri AI. Also, if you own the iPhone 17 Pro lineup and the iPhone Air, you will get access to advanced dictation and expressive voices.
So yes, there will be two versions of iOS 27, one with a lot of AI tools and features, and one without these new AI stuff.
Password App Gets Smarter
The Password app is a great app that not just stores all your passwords but also keeps you updated if these passwords have been leaked due to various security issues. In iOS 27, the Password app will now change passwords on your behalf- especially those passwords that are weak or have been leaked. Once the Password app changes the passwords, it will automatically update all eligible accounts with the newly created passwords.
Performance Boosts with iOS 27
iOS 26 was a major update that brought in the new liquid glass effect; however, many users who updated to iOS 26 have reported that the OS felt sluggish, had performance issues, and a number of bugs that made using older iPhones quite annoying. With the update to iOS 27, a lot of these issues and bugs are said to be resolved, and users can expect performance boosts on their older iPhones.
Users will see improvements in Wi-Fi and cellular connections, 80% quicker transfers via AirDrop, 70% faster image loading via the Photos app, and a 30% improvement in app launching.
New Liquid Glass Opacity Slider
A feature that many users have been wanting since the release of iOS 26 is finally here. With iOS 27, you can now change the opacity from ultra clear to completely tinted. So yes, if you hate the Liquid Glass design, you can finally remove the effect, making text more readable on your device. There will also be better diffusion of content to make text more readable if you plan to stick with using the Liquid Glass design on your iPhone.

New Editing Tools for the Photos App
The Photos app in iOS 27 will finally get new and improved AI tools. The improved Clean Up feature in iOS 277 will now do a better and more realistic job of removing objects and distractions from your images.

You can finally generate extra parts of your images with the new Extend tool. This tool uses generative AI to create new parts of your image similar to what many AI photo editing apps have had for a while. The third new tool is called Spatial Reframing. This new tool lets you take any 2D image and turn it into a 3D image, which lets you change the perspective in your images.
These three new tools will be present in the Photos app under a new section called Tools.
Shortcuts App Made Simpler
The Shortcuts app is a great way to control various aspects of your iPhone by adjusting different options and settings. Now with iOS 27, you can simply type in what you want your iPhone to do in natural language, and the Shortcuts app will act right away. This is one of the best ways to get more users to use these automation tools on the iPhone without having to dig through different pages and menus.
Parental Control Improvements
The Safari app now has a new Ask to Browse feature that will send a request to the parents if they could get access to a particular website. Parents can easily approve or reject the request. The Screen Time page also gets new Communication Safety features that will automatically blur content that contains nudity, gore, and violence. Also, a new Time Allowance feature lets the parents set time limits for their kids who use specific entertainment apps and games that are specific to the kids’ ages.
